1/16/2003Stan ReadA combination of short days (<4 hours), low temperatures (<-30) and overcast (>90%) shut the station down and kept it down from Dec. 28, 2002 until the 10th of Jan. It shut down again from the 11th to the 15th. It was warm (+6) and clear today. The station was restarted. Same story....second verse. Again the station went down because of low temps and not enough sun. The wind speed readings are in error. If we had winds over 100 mph in Fairbanks we would all freeze and blow away like snowflakes.Station InfoData Graph
1/10/2003Stan ReadA combination of short days (<4 hours), low temperatures (<30&degF) and overcast (>90%) shut the station down and kept it down from Dec. 28, 2002 until today. It was warm (+20&degF) and clear today. The station was restarted. See previous comment for current station location information.Station InfoData Graph
12/18/2002Stan ReadStation has been moved from its location at the Museum to a location slightly north and west adjacent to the Irving Building. The Museum will undergo major construction starting next spring and the station would have been in the way. Wind speed and direction will have major errors at this location because of the proximity of the Irving building. The gamma readings are slightly higher probably due to the nearby rock facing of the building. The station was restarted by Loda Griffeth.Station InfoData Graph
11/14/2002Stan ReadThe Fairbanks station is being temporarily moved from in front of the museum to a location on the east end of the Irving Building. The museum construction program precipitates this move. The wind speed and direction sensors will not be activated at this location because of major interference from the adjacent buildings.Station InfoData Graph
7/18/2002Stan ReadA severe thunderstorm hit the UAF campus at about 00:25 Z July 18 leading to a 1.5 &microR/h increase in radiation and a 9.5&degC temperature drop.Station InfoData Graph
3/6/2002Stan ReadStation went down due to lack of sufficient solar power & low temps. Restarted 00:50 02 Mar 2000.Station InfoData Graph
