Monitoring Gamma Radiation

The Neighborhood Environmental Watch Network, known as NEWNET, is able to give early indications of increases in radiation due to radioactive particulates in the air.

TA3-130
LANL Calibration Facility, NM

8/21/2001 The station is still down due to the unavailability of a replacement gamma detector. The calibration facility itself is shut down due to being relocated. Therefore, there will not be any further calibration activities at the TA3-130 facility.Station InfoData Graph
8/14/2001Kevin AndersonOn Sunday 8/12/01 the station stopped transmitting data. On Monday 8/13/01 the condition was observed. Allen Treadaway and Kevin Anderson upon suggestion by Mike McNaughton, made the switch over to AC power from solar battery power. After the change, no voltage was detected at the data platform. The unit was removed from the field and brought back to TA35 for bench testing. It was determinded that the unit had failed. A replacement unit was being set up at day's end.Station InfoData Graph
8/14/2001Kevin AndersonOn 8/9/01, it was observed that the station was not transmitting data. Allen Treadaway and Kevin Anderson replaced the battery and reloaded the program. Transmission resumed at approximately 1600Z. The reason the battery was replaced is because of the low volatage condition (~11.4 V).Station InfoData Graph
8/2/2001David SeagravesThe small spike on 8/1/2001 was caused by the removal of two calibration sources from their wells. These sources were placed into storage.Station InfoData Graph
7/27/2001David SeagravesThe drop in the readings was due to placing a calibration source into storage. The source was removed from the annex to the storage vault.Station InfoData Graph
